Are you a Georgia teacher or career counselor with students interested in a skilled trade career within the construction industry? Most people think of “vertical” construction first, but a large piece of the overall the construction industry is “horizontal,” which encompasses the building of roads and bridges. We can help you and your students – both male and female – learn about the many job types, career paths and skills needed for a successful career in highway construction.
Georgia Road Jobs, an initiative launched several years ago by the Georgia Highway Contractors Association, is working to raise awareness about careers in this fast-growth sector. Thanks to the Transportation Funding Act passed by the state Legislature in 2015, nearly $1 billion a year is flowing into transportation projects across our state, creating a long-term demand for highway construction workers.
Ready to get your students interested in highway construction? We’re here to help. And be sure to check out the Why Highway Work (link) page that provides information about the types of individuals who are best suited for a road construction career – this will aid you in identifying the students most likely to succeed in this industry.
